Taking Steps to End Domestic Violence Walk-A-Thon
October 6, 2018 @ 7:30 am - 12:00 pm
On Saturday, October 6, 2018 the Daphne Belgrave-Kersee Foundation hosted their 1st Annual Taking Steps to End Domestic Violence Walk-A-Thon at San Pedro High School Track.
In honor of those who have lost their lives to Domestic Violence, we took Steps to End Domestic Violence. As advocates for those trying to find their way out of a Domestic Violence relationship, we took Steps to End Domestic Violence. For every child who shutters in fear as they witness the verbal and physical abuse that transpires in a Domestic Violence household, we took Steps to End Domestic Violence.
Participants gathered on the track prior to the start of the walk to hear the foundation’s board chair Dennis Kersee Jr. speak on the mission and the vision of DBKF. He introduced the board members as well as, bestowing honors to Daphne’s two youngest children; Manch H. Kersee Jr. (Consistency Award) and Shelia Carter (Care Award). Debra Kersee-Anderson, founder expressed her extreme appreciation for everyone attendance and support. There was much enthusiasm displayed as the participants loosen/warmed up with a number of traditional line dancing songs; a little Wobble & Cupid Shuffle just to get the blood flowing! Then the various teams took center stage across the starting line with Coach Bob Kersee giving the starting cue and the Taking Steps to End Domestic Violence Walk-A-Thon was underway
As the participants proceeded around the track they had the opportunity to read the many staggering statistics that are associated with domestic violence. These statistics were placed on yard signs all around the track for all to read and reflect upon. To the utter delight of the parents who brought their young children, Tabahani Book Circle was posted up at the Children’s Enrichment Tent providing snacks, games and a world wind of activities and fun for our younger generation. It was truly a family affair! All registered participates received a Nike Gym Bag and a commemorative DBKF keychain.
We look forward to our 2019 Taking Steps to End Domestic Violence Walk-A-Thon, as the planning as already begun; see you next year!
